Andy Mitchell Guitar Music

Thank you for your interest in classical guitar lessons. I teach from my home studio in Ellicott City, Maryland, and I’ve been teaching classical guitar for all ages and levels for over 20 years now. I taught at Anne Arundel Community College for 8 years and have been teaching at the International School of Music since 2005 and the Levine School of Music since 2003.

Online Teaching

I offer training in classical guitar technique, musicality, performing,  recording, music theory, arranging, composition, and ear training.

Currenly, I am only teaching online through Zoom. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions. If you would like to reserve a spot in my studio for weekly lessons, please let me know which day of the week and what time works best for you, and hopefully we can find a suitable time.

My Teaching Approach

Rates and Policies

One of the things I spend a lot of time on with my students is teaching them how to practice, for I wasted a number of years in my life not knowing how to go about it effectively. I also teach a specialized method of memorization so that my students can feel confident in a piece of music if they should choose to perform it. I focus on proper technique and musicality, and I also make sure my students can read music and count well. Additionally, I will also teach some beginning music theory as applied to guitar, because I believe that understanding this helps not only with phrasing and memorization, but it also equips guitarists to compose their own music, which I also teach if a student is interested. I work with each student at his/her level and work up from there according to each person’s individual rate of progress. I also think it’s important that my students play music which appeals to them personally, so I try to pick musical selections that the student likes while still achieving my teaching objectives.

I charge $80 for a 1 hour lesson, and I require that students pay at the beginning of the month for the entire month. If the student misses a lesson, I will attempt to work out a time for a rescheduled lesson during the following week. However, I cannot guarantee that such a time will be available or will be convenient for the student. If we cannot find a time that can be agreed upon, that lesson is forfeit—there is no refund.

If I am unable to teach a lesson for whatever reason, that lesson will either be made up or refunded.

Studio space is limited. Payments accepted through Zelle or PayPal.

I look forward to working with you!
